Even though the espresso extraction is rather quick, the steps leading up to it (and cleanup afterward) are rather time consuming, but nothing good ever comes easy.

I have concerns about the use of plastic. I can’t seem to find information anywhere about whether the internal containers are made of plastic. I’m not here to spark a debate on the harms of plastic, but I must say I am wary of it and try to avoid it when possible, especially where heat is involved.

People who like extra-large coffees will find the above feature useful. However, this is an espresso machine that costs in excess of $1,000. So, if you want a large cup of brew, you should likely consider a $50 coffee maker.

I don’t really disagree with any of this, but I think I covered the limitations of superauto pretty thoroughly and stressed the issue of value (in the original post and again in another reply to OP).
Price I pull shots by weight and observing blonding with a naked portafilter. The shot time and flavor tell me how large the grind adjustment should be. The naked portafilter lets me see if there are any issues with puck prep. Any imperfections in flow will noticeably degrade flavor.

Looking into the Gaggia machine. It gets great reviews. The only thing I dislike is that I need to manually stop the coffee. Breville is out of my budget, sadly. But the Gaggia seems fine.

With the Dual Boiler, you’ll need an separate grinder and tamp it manually, so of course, you get the standard mess of coffee grinds that this usually generates. Having bought the Breville grinder you can at least set it to a preset time, so it’s partly automatic, as it will stop after the preset dose is achieve. Frothing is easy and fast thanks to it’s dual boilers, but you still need to know proper technique and use your hands to guess when it’s hot enough.

Central America We have a Jura and Delonghi side by side at work. We have 2 different brands because we had different boss and the Swiss guy swears by Jura and actually paid for a Jura from his own pocket. The Jura works really well, made over 10 000 cups and no hiccups at all.
The type of bean that is being used is particularly important for super-automatic machines, because the built in burr grinders only accept certain types of beans. Another consideration is the roast of the bean, which greatly influences how much crema can be produced, as well as the flavor of the shot. Super-automatic machines are not compatible with oily, caramelized, or flavored beans. Properly stored and recently roasted beans are best. You can find more information on why bean selection and storage is important for super-automatic machines by watching the video below.
I’d looked at the Jura S8 and Z6 but noticed the Xelsis has been replaced by the GranBarista. These machines look extremely similar in features on paper between manufacturers (J/S/others) and between models on the high end (S8/Z6).

It’s an excellent automatic espresso machine, I bought it second hand. I’ve had no issues with it in the last year since I bought it, but in the last few months I’ve noticed the crema coming out dark and bitter. I’ve run the cleaning and descaling program but still having trouble with it. The inside of the machine also seems to have grinds splattered everywhere, no easy way to clean it. Anyone have any advice?

90% of my coffee is normal coffee , but my wife likes with milk Since this cost around $30 in stainless steel, I was a bit skeptical when I got the opportunity to test drive something a little bit different, the Jura IMPRESSA J9 One Touch TFT. If it sounds like a jet plane model it ought to, since it runs a cool $2,799.
Sounds like a great idea, but then I’d be the fall guy when a bad batch comes in. I was hoping to find something that people have experience with.

If a particular superauto facilitates full adjustment and is economical the primary consideration would be relative grind quality, easy of cleaning and degree of control. My comments are perhaps more applicable to superautos which do not facilitate adjustment, facilitate limited adjustment or make adjustment difficult. If adjustment is difficult it sort of eats away at the supposed value of convenience but that may be a reasonable sacrifice for some if the cost represents a savings. Your comment here has some great observations. I would love the showdown.

The Dual Boiler is a great machine on it’s own and will get you the same quality of coffee as the Oracle, it’s just a bit more hands on and a bit messier 🙂 Compared to the Rancilio Silvia though, it’s a much easier machine to get reliable shots. (night and day difference)
If you’re ready to pull the trigger on buying an espresso machine, be prepared to shell out a little cash. Espresso machines can be wildly expensive. Rightfully so. Pulling a perfect shot requires precision: the machine must maintain both precise temperature and stable pressure throughout the brewing process. Achieving this stability is difficult and requires complex machinery, which is why you can find machines for upwards of 6,000 dollars.
Real Thing So far I’ve found this. I don’t like the price. It takes at least 9 bars of pressure to make a good espresso shot, and the Z6’s pump is rated at 15 bars so that you won’t have any difficulty on that front!  Your machine’s pump has all the power you need to get world-class espresso, every time you use it.

For maintenance, you may need to occasionally backflush a semi automatic, depending on the machine, and descaling applies to both. Taste: Hello I can see that the machines you’ve got there are fairly automatic. Maybe you want to make a small jump and get yourself into a machine “automatic” but configurable so you can play with it if you wish.

On the plus side, the single boiler is aluminum, with a stainless-steel lining, and features Thermoblock technology, so it heats and adjusts temperature quickly, meaning you won’t have to wait very long to switch from one task to the other.
The Jura has a water filter, the DeLonghi doesn’t. But if you live in Switzerland this probably doesn’t matter.
I am going to have to agree with you on that one. “Real” espresso isn’t the same definition to everyone. I live in Europe (Denmark) we have a different definition to coffee then most Americans. I think of good espresso like most people think of fine wine. 🙂

As you can see, there’s a lot to like about the Jura Z6, and we’re big fans of the model.  However, there are a few things we’d love to see in a future model upgrade.  None of these are deal breakers, but we feel they would enhance what is already a great machine.  In no particular order, they are:

If coffee is important for you, then taste wise, this is immensely better than any super automatic. The only thing it won’t do is get rid of the grounds, so you’ll need a knock box next to it.

  6. Hey guys. I just decided to check out this subreddit on a whim and all I see is weirdos interesting people with thermometers and scales. I have a Jura Impressa S9 and I just put my beans in and press a button. Are these machines kind of looked down upon here? Am I doing something wrong?
For what I paid, (£240, around $380 at the time) I don’t think I could I could have done better. It has been used heavily for the best part of 2 years, and it hasn’t yet given me any trouble (except one time when I left a bit too long between descales, but that was my own stupid fault).

some machines make fantastic coffee, and to some degree, certain machines have become the gold standard to base good coffee off of (aka fetco). so the fact of using a machine is not the issue. the issue is that many machines don’t have the proper configurations to brew optimally. doing things the manual way offers flexibility in how to brew, and it can go a long way in creating a very delicious cup.

A little over 6 months ago my daughter was born and I realized I was drinking at least 3-4 espresso every day. These $.75CAD pods were adding up! Cue the hunt for a super automatic, which would “pay for itself” in coffee savings. I couldn’t afford not to buy one. Lol
